Democrats are Elitists who feel guilty for stepping over the homeless people on their way to their high paying tech jobs so they would rather have them shooed away by the local police. They like to get behind causes that are more distant like helping muslims and black people or immigrants. Anything that makes them feel good from afar, as long as these people don’t show up on their doorstep or affect the resale value of their homes unless it’s to do the gardening or the house cleaning.
They share a lot in common with their elite counterparts in the Republican party. The only difference is that they don’t like all the weird guilty feelings that being an elitist in a society filled with extreme income inequality makes them feel so they like to blame the Republicans for causing all the problems. It’s much easier than taking personal responsibility and possibly having to make personal sacrifices.
Republicans circumvent their guilty feelings dehumanizing and blaming the vulnerable within our society for their own circumstances. Now and then some of them do try to blame the Democrats for letting down the vulnerable but the Democrats have been able to insulate themselves from these charges by bringing the progressives into their tent. Democrats and Republicans simply deal with their guilt in different ways.
Progressives are liberal arts majors who are one step away from homelessness themselves. Can’t get high tech jobs because they lack the training and they can barely afford to eat after they pay their student loan payments and their high rent due to gentrification by their Democratic peers. These are the people who end up as activists because they feel a kinship with the homeless and marginalized who are all around them.
Progressives and Christian Conservatives have a lot in common. Both are willing to sacrifice of themselves to help the needy so long as the needy are willing to pay lip service to their respective religions. For progressives the needy must pay lip service to the social justice and LGBT movement, and for Christian conservatives the needy must pay lip service to Jesus and the Bible.
