White House snubs Azar, installs Trump loyalist Michael Caputo as HHS spokesperson

The White House is installing Trump campaign veteran Michael Caputo in the health department’s top communications position, Caputo confirmed to POLITICO.

The move is designed to assert more White House control over Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, whom officials believe has been behind recent critical reports about President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, according to two officials with knowledge of the move.

April 15 (Reuters) - U.S. coronavirus deaths increased by a record number for the second day in a row, rising by at least 2,371 on Wednesday to top 30,800, according to a Reuters tally, as states spared the worst of the pandemic mulled a partial lifting of restrictions on business and social life by May 1.

The United States recorded its first coronavirus fatality on Feb. 29. It took 38 days to reach 10,000 deaths and just nine more days to go from 10,000 fatalities to 30,000. The previous high single-day death toll was 2,364 on Tuesday.

After Anonymous Tip, 17 Bodies Found at Nursing Home Hit by Virus

By Monday, the police in a small New Jersey town had gotten an anonymous tip about a body being stored in a shed outside one of the state’s largest nursing homes.

When the police arrived, the corpse had been removed from the shed, but they discovered 17 bodies piled inside the nursing home in a small morgue intended to hold no more than four people.

“They were just overwhelmed by the amount of people who were expiring,” said Eric C. Danielson, the police chief in Andover, a small township in Sussex County, the state’s northernmost county.

The 17 were among 68 recent deaths linked to the long-term care facility, Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center I and II, including two nurses, officials said. Of those who died, 26 people had tested positive for the virus.

For the others, the cause of death is unknown.

Of the patients who remain at the homes, housed in two buildings, 76 have tested positive for the virus; 41 staff members, including an administrator, are sick with Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to county health records shared on Wednesday with a federal official.

Andover Subacute is not alone. Coronavirus has swept through the New York region’s nursing homes with devastating and deadly speed, killing thousands of residents at facilities struggling with staff shortages, increasingly sick patients and a lack of personal protective gear.

But with beds for 700 patients, Andover Subacute is, records show, the state’s largest licensed facility — and the risk of continued spread is terrifying to family members who have turned to social media and their local congressman, desperate for answers and extra personnel

“The challenge we’re having with all of these nursing homes, is once it spreads, it’s like a wildfire,” said Representative Josh Gottheimer, a Democrat who got the call on Saturday, asking for body bags. “It’s very hard to stop it.”

One of the owners of the facility, Chaim Scheinbaum, did not return calls or emails. Staff members who answered phones at the facilities said they were not authorized to speak to the news media.

Trump National Doral Miami lays off 560 employees

The coronavirus pandemic continues to hit all sectors of the economy, including the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort.

The Associated Press reported that the golf resort in South Florida, where President Donald Trump once talked of hosting the Group of Seven summit, has temporarily laid off 560 workers.

What's becoming apparent is that Americans in general (most) can't see the damage being done by trump. This isn't going to be reversed after a year of a Dem president being in power. Trump has seriously damaged your country and power is shifting east.

got to agree......it will take years to repair the damage he has done to the country and our standing in the world...…...he has just plain mind fucked a lot in the country......and "twitter" whipped most politicians into saying nothing...….hard to believe there can be that many stupid people and spineless politicians in this country

Within the first year, the repealing of all of the de-regulation can be undone by a pen stroke and simply reverting back to Obama standards, afterall, what Trump has been driven by is the need to undue all things Obama, that's an easy fix.In just 13 months, the Democrats passed over 300 bills out of the House. It can be done.
One thing will take more time, federal judges. The gift that Trump gave us is that a lot of his judges are not ABA approved, and are still wearing training wheels. Give them the opportunity to resign. Go after the Federal Appeals Courts and appoint very young judges.
Go back to the international tables like adults.
Since a former president can be indicted- get to work. And don't forget AG Barr.
The conspiracy theorists will be yelling loud and the racists will mourn, but time to go back to ignoring them and they will return to am radio, podcasts and the darkweb.

The main question is getting started. Trump will not accept an election defeat, the US Marshalls and military will have to enforce the constitution and remove him and his gold doorknobs.
 
I think he is starting to fall from grace now....and will take a big dive before election in Nov...…..Wall street pushing trump to open economy....but most states and biz know we are not ready...…..you see all these right wing trump supporters out protesting...….maybe the virus will take care of things on it's own....how fitting their support for the killer should maybe take a few of their lives.........…..but I think as the death count rises......his popularity going down.....and his willingness to risk more lives....just "killing" his chances of re-election.....the morons that are supporting him will crawl back into their little hole

sure they can ….you are supporting one in the white house...and he has supporters trying to decrease the population...in huge numbers everyday....what would you call that?....hell look at Mich......numbers swelling a lot everyday...….and then you see all these protests when someone trying to stop the dying....but protesters out on the streets all waving trump flags...…..congress man from Ind....telling people to put on big boy pants and go to work....think those big boy pants will protect people from the virus....just another republican worried about biz and no regard for the American public

The protests in Michigan? The one where they don't like the idea of the Governor saving lives? The one with Confederates Flags and Hitler/Nazi symbols? And the bozos with their guns standing around?
Yep, saw it. Could not figure out what the Trump/Pence flags were for since Trump called for a quarantine. Could not understand why the Confederate Flag was being waved around. I understood the Nazi stuff, can't have a Trump rally without it. And, that's what it was. A Trump rally, not a protest. However, for people to gather like that in the third highest infected state- not so good.
