For me it depends on the situation. Not everyone has the means financially to pay for things but may have a solid interest to meet and play. I think asking for half is a fair and reasonable request. Regardless of who is fucking who. On the other hand it is unwise to make assumptions and not communicate properly. If they said that they would cover all expenses then there's every right to be upset. But if they didn't give any impression that they would then it's everyone's responsibility until terms are communicated properly and both parties accept this arrangement.
