No I did not sleep through civics class. Of course living north of the border we had a lot of questions to ask. Like why not elect all of the government members at one time. Both Congress and senate and president / vice president.

what about a national proposition with every citizen getting a vote.

well let's see, if you want a national election to decide on abortion being legal then step #1 would be get an amemdment to the US Constitution creating a national election system for Federal laws. Once you get that completed by a 2/3 vote of both the House and Senate followed by it being ratified by 3/4 of all State legislatures....then come back to me and I'll advise you on step #2.
