Unfortunately - there is merit to that argument - we the people are on the losing end of this :{
.... and you can thank Newt Gingrich, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Jim DeMint, Bob Corker, Kevin McCarthy, Pete Sessions, Tom Coburn, Pete Hoekstra and Frank Luntz and 3 others (forget their names) who met to form the
Party of NO with the intent of submarining Obama on the first day of his presidency. Newt was quoted as saying, after the first meeting,
"Gentlemen, you'll remember this day when the seeds of 2012 were sown". But, Obama got re-elected for his
second term
... the Republicans failed AGAIN!
Grover Norquist (Tea Party) started the "No Tax" pledge which he got 95% of all Republican in congress to sign under the threat of unseating them in the next elections ... which he did with some thanks to the deep pockets of the Koch Brothers at the time. Thing is, the Republican Party had allowed themselves to be taken hostage by a
non-governmental agency. A
direct violation of their
"Oath Of Congress". Now think ... where are all those folks I mentioned above, NOW? Mostly ALL GONE! Voted OUT of office.
And
THAT, my dear Trump colleague, is when
THE GREAT POLERIZATION of US POLITICS started. It's going to take a very special president to mend the ill will of our 2-party system. I'm not sure I see that person in the horizon, BUT, a good start in finding them will be to put some sort of term limits on our congressional representatives, just like the presidency, and make all donations, to our representatives, totally transparent for the public to see. We need to bring some resemblance of integrity & honesty back to our Washington representatives.
Just
THIS WEEK in the NC General assembly, currently held by the Republicans, the GOP Chairman, Robin Hayes, and 3 others have been indicted by a federal grand jury of trying to funnel $2 million of bribe money to the NC Insurance Commissioner, Mike Causey, for favorable legislation. Once approached, Causey contacted the FBI and the sting got put into progress. And, surprisingly, Causey is a Republican.
This seems to be the norm of a
once proud party of budget discipline. Cutting voting days, hours, eliminating poling locations, restricting registration, etc all under the hidden agenda of a Voter ID law to stop voter fraud. Coincidently, the
only cheating that has been found in NC have been done
by the Republicans in the 2nd district just last election with absentee ballots. That and radical gerrymandering, which 3 separate district judges have demanded that Republicans fix, that Republicans have
ignored to fix as of today, seems to be the M.O. of this once proud party now. Lie, cheat, and steal your way to the top ... its become inevitable with their current "trickle down" tax cut schemes.
