First trial for DeSantis' war on 'voter fraud' ends with Republican found guilty — but not for voter fraud
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) founded the Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security and their first act was to arrest 20 people who voted because they thought that the new law allowing almost all felons to vote gave them the right to cast a ballot. Most of the charges against those people didn't stick because the crime is "knowingly" casting a ballot when you know you can't.
But one person that was caught during the DeSantis crackdown was Republican Nathan Hart. His trial unfolded last week, but not for voter fraud charges, said the Tampa Bay Times.
Hart voted in the 2020 election, but he was found guilty of lewd or lascivious *******, which barred him from voting.
"Hart was charged with two third-degree felonies, which carry a penalty of up to five years in prison, in the voter fraud case. On Tuesday night, a jury found him guilty of false affirmation, but not guilty of voting by an unqualified electorate," the Times reported.
He was ultimately found guilty of "false affirmation but not guilty of voting by an unqualified electorate."

Chaos': Lincoln Project ridicules the 'state of the Republican Party'
Avideo released by the Lincoln Project ahead of the State of the Union Address explores the state of the Republican Party. It used clips of Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) video published Monday ranting about problems without providing any solutions.
It showed clips of Republicans ranting about whether the next China balloon would have a "virus" inside of it and asked whether it took off from Wuhan, the city where the COVID-19 pandemic is thought to have originated.
"Pop! Droplets all over. Look, we're all on ventilators again," ranted Fox's Jesse Waters.
Another clip showed Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) ranting that Americans own just 46 percent of the world's guns. She argued that the number needs to increase.
Another clip of Republican Russell Fry (SC) described the China spy balloon as like the alien spaceship in "Independence Day" that ultimately blows up major cities all over the world. No one was killed with the spy balloon.
The video closed with a clip of Rep. George Santos (R-NY) saying, "rest assured," everything he says from now forward will be above board. "It's largely always been above board."
