Feds withhold $1.2M as Florida refuses to enforce COVID vaccine rule for health care workers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.— As Gov. Ron DeSantis fights COVID-19 vaccination passports and mandates — most recently by threatening the Special Olympics with a $27.5 million fine — there’s one mandate he can’t stop.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is enforcing a federal vaccine requirement for health care staff that offers only medical or religious exemptions. The rule, which the U.S. Supreme Court validated in January, contradicts a state law that requires employers to offer broad exemptions that are not allowed by CMS.

Though the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration has vowed not to monitor or report whether Florida health care facilities are following the requirement, that isn’t stopping the federal government from checking. CMS required 100% of eligible Florida health care workers to be fully vaccinated or receive an exemption by Feb. 28.

Lauren Boebert receives cheers at a Christian center after saying she prays that Biden's 'days be few and another take his office'

  • Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert joked about praying for President Joe Biden's death.
  • Boebert made the comments to a cheering crowd while speaking at a Christian event in Colorado Springs.
  • Boebert was touted as a speaker at the event who had "proven God's Word" alongside several pastors.

My Spin: Too many leaders sitting quietly when they should be outraged about Jan. 6 events

Bob Gibson was in the second wave of troops storming Normandy’s beaches on D-Day. Now 100 and wheelchair bound, NBC Nightly News filmed his return 78 years later. Bob reminisced about the estimated 4,400 Americans who died on June 6, 1944.

The television interviewer asked his reactions upon returning. “I done this for you people,” he emphatically responded. “Don’t screw it up!”

Are we? For more than 50 years, I have been observing, reporting on, writing about and moderating TV talk shows on public policy issues. What I am seeing currently is a disillusioned, disgusted, discouraged, distrustful, disbelieving and disunited people. It is disturbing to see.

GOP governor says Trump is ‘politically, morally responsible’ for Jan. 6

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) on Sunday said former President Trump is “politically, morally responsible” for the Jan. 6 riot last year and called for Republicans to do some “soul-searching” after the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Republicans’ ‘big tent’ is now an isolation booth

In August 2016, three months before he was elected president, Donald Trump endorsed three Republicans who had expressed reservations about him: Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), then Speaker of the House of Representatives, and U.S. Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and John McCain (R-Ariz). “We will have our differences,” Trump declared, “but we will disagree as friends.”

Trump said he embraced “the wisdom of Ronald Reagan’s ‘big tent’ within the party. Big, big tent. Remember Ronald Reagan … He included Reagan Democrats and independents and Republicans. A lot of people. We’re going to have the same thing.”

That was 2016.

In 2021, as his caucus considered removing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as the third-ranking Republican leader in the House, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said, “This Republican Party’s a very big tent. Everybody’s invited in.”

As the Republican National Committee voted to censure Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) for voting to impeach President Trump and joining the House Select Committee investigating the assault on the U.S. Capitol, RNC chair Ronna McDaniel maintained, “Disagreement in our party is welcome. It makes us great. We can have a big tent.”

In practice, however, Reagan’s 11th Commandment — “Thou shall not speak ill of another Republican” — is a dead letter.

The recent purge of Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.) demonstrates that the Republicans’ big tent is in fact an isolation booth, even for individuals who endorse Trump’s baseless claims about the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Jacobs’s conservative credentials are unimpeachable. He has a 100 percent favorable rating from the National Right to Life Committee (zero percent from Planned Parenthood); 89 percent from Heritage Action for America; 70 percent from the John Birch Society; 92 percent from the fiscally conservative Americans For Prosperity; 100 percent from the New York State Rifle and ******* Association.

On Jan. 6, 2021, Jacobs voted to reject the certification of election returns from Arizona and Pennsylvania. He voted against President Biden’s American Rescue Plan of 2021 and the Build Back Better Act.

Bills sponsored by Jacobs include: banning tax-payer funded abortions and abortions when a ******* heartbeat is detectable; rejecting new abortion ******* and imposing additional regulatory requirements on those that have previously been approved; recognizing gender identity based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth to determine compliance with Title IX regulations for athletics; limiting travel by the vice president until the immigration crisis on the southwest border of the United States is resolved; prohibiting the secretary of education from providing federal funds to a school unless in-person instruction is available to all students and parents may opt out of student mask mandates; providing a means by which non-residents of a state whose residents may carry concealed firearms may also do so in the state.

Jacobs seemed almost certain to be re-elected.

Deeply moved by the mass-shooting in a Tops Market located close to his district, Jacobs (who had worked closely with Katherine Massie, one of the victims, when he served on the Buffalo Board of Education) announced he would support legislation banning AR-15-style assault weapons, raising the minimum age for rifle purchases to 21, limiting the size of ammunition magazines, and prohibiting sales of body armor to civilians.

Almost immediately, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that Jacobs had “caved to the gun grabbers.” New York conservatives and virtually every Republican elected official withdrew their endorsements of the congressman. State GOP chair Nicholas Langworthy began circulating petitions to run against him in the Aug. 23 Republican primary. Carl Paladino, a former GOP candidate for governor, who has called Adolf Hitler “the kind of leader we need,” joined the race as well, with support from Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), the third-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Sam Donaldson: Fox News is afraid of antagonizing Trump supporters

Veteran reporter Sam Donaldson drew upon his 42-years at ABC News to explain why Fox News has changed the dynamics of American discourse between the Watergate hearings and those of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Donaldson was interviewed on Saturday by CNN's Jim Acosta.

"The divide that prompted thousands to storm the Capitol is still on display more than a year later as Fox News refused to air the first night of the Jan. 6th committee hearing," Acosta said. "I know you know this, but Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity — whose own texts with the Trump white house were revealed by the committee — they called these hearings propaganda and a Democratic fund-raiser."

"You were there through Watergate, it has got to be shocking to you when much of the nation was glued to the news media's coverage that White House of the scandal. Could you imagine a major network back then behaving like Fox at Watergate, shutting it out not showing it to the American people?" Acosta asked.

"No," Donaldson replied. "No."

I'm sure with other countries not buying from Russia now has tapped into the supply

but I read earlier that even though gas prices high....and their making record profits
they said they are putting out just as much gas as they did a year ago.....I believe this

Contrary to what ReTHUGlicans are saying .... it wasn't a TOUR of the Capitol Building and it wasn't a PEACEFUL MARCH on the Capitol.
It was an "organized" attempted COUP of the Federal Government by the "then" sitting President" Of the USA to foil the Presidential Election Results of 2024 organized and encouraged by no other than Donald Trump and led by a paramilitary group called Proud Boys.

A paramilitary is an organization whose structure, tactics, training, subculture, and (often) function are similar to those of a professional military, but is not part of a country's official or legitimate armed forces. Paramilitary units carry out duties that a country's military or police forces are unable, or sometimes unwilling, to handle.

Throw ALL of the DIRTY, TREASONOUS BASTARDS in PRISON for TREASON AGAINST THE USA!

NEVER FORGET this point .... AFTER the isurrection, Republicans attempted to FINISH the job to make TRUMP a DICTATOR!
pic_Republicans-Insurrectionists.jpeg The KEY POINT is that 68% of REPUBLICANS chose to try & make Trump a DICTATOR.
