Trump was the 'biggest leaker of all' in his administration and it was 'generally bad' for the country, his former Pentagon chief says
"Leaks were a chronic problem" in the Trump administration, Esper said in his new book, and those involved in the leaking "learned from the top."
•"Nobody wanted to see their name in the morning news, especially when the words were so often twisted, misinterpreted, and taken out of context," he added. "In the Trump administration, this could get you blacklisted or fired."
•Along these lines, Esper in his book defended his decision to launch an investigation into leaks in the Department of Defense in the summer of 2020, and did not address whether Trump or his top advisors may have been behind them; the president's powers to unilaterally declassify mean it is not a crime for him to disclose official secrets unlike any other US official.
•"None of this was about muzzling whistleblowers or clamping down on the activities of a free media, as a few alleged. It was all about curtailing the unauthorized release of classified information that harmed our nation's security or put our troops at risk, while also weakening the trust and confidence our foreign partners had in us," Esper said.
•"Leakers are traitors and cowards, and we will find out who they are!" Trump wrote in a May 2018 tweet. The former president was permanently banned from Twitter last year.
•Esper is not the first to point to Trump as a leaker. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in a memoir published last year wrote that Trump told him he leaked to Axios that he was offering Christie the White House chief of staff job in late 2018.
"I did it myself," Trump said when Christie asked him if he knew who leaked the story, according to the book. "It was a great story, right? It was good for you and good for me. It was good," Trump said. Christie ultimately did not accept the job, releasing a statement saying he'd withdrawn himself from consideration to avoid embarrassing Trump by publicly rejecting the offer.

Elbert County Clerk via TwitterAfter a months-long court battle, Colorado officials have finally retrieved hard drives containing data that was smuggled from a county’s voting machines. But it’s still unclear who accessed that data—or what a conspiracy-promoting set of Coloradans hope to do with...
Following a court order last Wednesday, Dallas Schroeder, clerk of Elbert County, Colorado, returned two hard drives containing his county’s election machine data. Schroeder previously testified that he copied the sensitive data last August, with help from a pair of Colorado conspiracy theorists linked to MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. Schroeder says he initially gave one copy of the data to his attorney John Case, and another to an unnamed lawyer. That unnamed lawyer’s identity was revealed to a judge under seal last week. Meanwhile, conspiracy theorists claim to have reviewed Elbert County voting machine data, even citing it in court.
Schroeder, who did not return a request for comment, is the second Colorado clerk accused of breaching voting machines under his supervision. The other clerk, Tina Peters of Mesa County, is currently facing a barrage of criminal charges for allegedly stealing a local tech worker’s identity, illegally copying her county’s election data, and leaking it to election fraud conspiracy theorists last spring. She later appeared at Lindell’s “cyber symposium” on supposed voter fraud where she implied, incorrectly, that the stolen data suggested election malfeasance against Donald Trump.
Some of Schroeder’s communications that day were with Shawn Smith and Mark Cook, a pair of election truthers who have promoted their conspiracy theories on Lindell’s “Lindell TV” webshow. Smith, who has previously stated that Colorado’s secretary of state “deserve to hang” if involved in election fraud, also leads Cause of America, a Lindell-backed election denialism group. Schroder testified that he copied the voting machine data using a “Logic Cube Forensic Falcon Neo Device,” a $4,000 device that he borrowed from and subsequently returned to Cook.
Stop The Steal types in Colorado have called for breaches of voting machines on the basis of a conspiracy theory that falsely accuses state officials of wiping those machines. (Peters, the Mesa County clerk, also cited the theory in her alleged breach of voting machines.) Schroeder, along with a small group of fellow Republican clerks, invoked the conspiracy theory in their own lawsuit against state officials in November. Ironically, Schroeder’s own affidavit in that case revealed that he had made unauthorized copies of his county’s election machine data.

You know, not only do I disagree with many of the things that you post, but I downright despise a lot of them.... But I not only support, but defend your right to say them... However, you open yourself up to disagreement anytime you post anything political. That's the way the game is played

"I am not aware of its current location," and "I do not know its current whereabouts," Trump says repeatedly of his most recent business phone, two old flip phones, plus a Samsung that he had used until "it was taken from me at some point while I was president," according to the filing.
Trump also swears in the filing that he has no additional personal business documents to turn over to the AG's probe — and that he does not own or use a business computer. "I also do not use a computer for work-related purposes," he says in the filing — a court-ordered affidavit he signed and dated on Friday, May 6.
The affidavit was included as part of a larger filing in New York Supreme Court that pushes back against a costly contempt-of-court order.
Trump's other current phone is a new one. He received it just last week from Truth Social, the social media company created by Trump Media & Technology Group, he said. This phone, he said, is used solely for posting "truths."

let me give you an example....stanly.....I pretty well know he just squeeks by and yet is a republican...hard to understand.....but anyway...we spent several days having a decent discussion....talking back and forth...i am starting to like the guy.....a couple of days later he starts in on how he can not understand how us on the left do not see how great trump is....and on and on.....never trusted him or his opinions after that....
as for you.......you have some kind of complex where you twist things to make you...just you...feel like you are being picked on....when most of the time not the case

Many of us, myself included, "barely squeak by", often times living from paycheck to paycheck. I have no complaints about my life, I'm very happy, have most of the things I want... I prefer government butt out and let me live my own life. Sure, I'm very active and connected politically, that's not just bluster, it's the honest truth. My ideology is very much in line with many libertarians. I've made it very clear that the biggest abject political failure, probably in history, is our 2 party system.
You've never bothered to actually look at what type of person that I am... People like Ed decided to make wild and patently false speculations about who I am, my occupation, my level of income, my residence, and why I'm on the site... Even went as far as blatantly insulting my wife, without knowing anything about her/us. You can't seriously think that my defensiveness is unjustified. When I stood up to him, you and others joined with him in that exercise.
Blkdlaur and I have formed a great friendship, he told me that same thing. He's a great guy, I think you would be surprised if you were to really chat with him away from political chatter. There's a story, a true story, about Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda... Stewart was a staunch conservative, Fonda a liberal Democrat. They cherished their friendship so much that they agreed to never talk politics... You just described why. I think you should both ask yourselves "what's more important?".
I'm not opposed to any sort of communication, either publicly or privately... But I do believe that ground rules should be set forth from the beginning. Those should be agreed upon by all in the conversation, and everyone should hold each other accountable for that, but only with gentleness and respect....

that to me is what makes it so hard to understand you guys being republican......but that is another point....I was in the union and they wanted someone involved in politics to keep the members more informed...i took that job....almost 50 years ago....and once you get involved you just seem to pay attention....which is why i post so many news articles that i think have a bearing on what we talk about....if you look ....the right used to be the party of smaller govt....but not anymore and that has changed over 20 years now....and actually getting worse.......have to have 2 party system otherwise a dictatorship...maybe something like Sweden with 14 people on the ballot for one slot..

That I completely agree with politics does bring out the worst in people at times.
My above response also qualifies here, only will add that, as we've all witnessed, "getting down on their (anyone's) level" is never beneficial.
I understand that, of course, that discussion is between the two of you. As you've noticed, I believe private conversations should be kept in pm. But I do understand... It's tough to come off as reasonable when insults have been exchanged for so long.
You may find this hard to believe, but I was part of a union when I was 19-21. It was the laborers here. It was probably the worst experience of my working life, and I found that I could make far more money, and have far better benefits working non-union. The BA in my local had his favorites who would get the good stuff, the rest of us got little to nothing. They were against the abolition of a prevailing wage. Personally, government should not have a say in the wages paid by private contractors/businesses. That includes the minimum wage. Open and free competition in the job market is the only thing that will cause wages to rise...
That may be the case, but it still doesn't excuse the terrible things that he said to me. Regardless of how deep you are removed from opposition, how you treat others is something that you should learn as a youth. My response to that was something I learned as a youth, that's never to let anyone walk on me.
It really does, but if you were really friends, you both should let that win out. You are both capable. Honestly, you'd be surprised to learn that you and I have more in common than you may realize.
I think that is a good plan for many of us. Like I said before, I'm very active politically here. Mainly in state/local politics. The reason I got so heavily involved here, is because of Missouri state athletic regulations, especially dealing with the professional wrestling industry.
Clinton's history in politics, i.e. her Benghazi & e-mails, was used by Republicans simply to destroy her political image. Several Republicans even admitted to it after Trump's 2016 win, by admitting to that fact and saying it "worked". Reminds me of the same type of assault they made on Obama but failed to accomplish. Like his birth certificate ... over 6 years that the Republicans & Trump used that Great Lie.
Secondly, as you always remind me when I bring up another individual in our discussions, you always change the individual we're discussing to get away from the Republican being discussed. So, in reality, the closest hypocrite you know is facing you when you're looking at yourself in a mirror. Maybe you should admit THAT.
It's also funny, and sad, that you ALWAYS find & address my posts and end most of them with calling me a hypocrite. Of course you accuse me of name-calling all the time when in actuality, all I've been doing is trying to discourage your obsession with me.

I have no desire to know you, like you, or chat with you, h-h. Having a discussion with you is like a dog chasing his tail ... it just keeps going "endlessly" around and around until you wear that individual down with your insistence of getting the "last response", just as you will with THIS discussion. You don't want to "discuss" any topic, you want to joust with whoever you're communicating with, which is why you insist on getting the last word to everything.

I would like to expound a bit on my belief that the 2 party system we have is such a failure.
I have stated many times in the threads that career politicians, those in BOTH parties, each seem to have one common goal... Keeping the public totally divided. When they see friends losing friends over political disagreement, even families divided, they know that they will be able to not only keep their jobs, but pervert the power given them by the people...
They simply cannot survive a UNIFIED electorate... The last time it sort of happened was right after 9/11, and it scared the blue hell out of them..
We the people have a common enemy... Is it Democrat? Yes... Is it Republican? Also yes.
I have stated many times in the threads that career politicians, those in BOTH parties, each seem to have one common goal... Keeping the public totally divided. When they see friends losing friends over political disagreement, even families divided, they know that they will be able to not only keep their jobs, but pervert the power given them by the people...
They simply cannot survive a UNIFIED electorate... The last time it sort of happened was right after 9/11, and it scared the blue hell out of them..
