Before that, if my history serves well, in the 1700s there was a rule of free city’s in England and Scotland, the city’s were London, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, some others as well, if a black man made it to these city’s he was free, and there were many cases of black men marrying city English and Scots girls.

This is a lovely thread we were not expecting as we hopefully started a search for a "desirable" Black man. We are learning things as well as understanding the wellsprings of some anger. You may be right about the dates, but I knew about the African men arriving in free city’s in the UK, because one was my great, great, etc granddad...the family story is he escaped at Liverpool, made Glasgow and had a fine life with his Scottish wife, so I was told by my nan.
