OK. I'll add a sexy story that was emblematic of those times. The story is totally true.
I was a junior in college in the late 1960s and had a buddy whose uncle worked for the city DA's office.
The uncle told my friend that there had been a "raid" on an apartment and a half-dozen bunnies from the local Playboy Club had been rounded up and questioned, but not arrested.
They were all caught naked and having sex with the doorman/security guard at the Playboy Club, along with two of his buddies. All of the gentlemen were black.
This was seen as scandalous by many, of course, in 1968.
The officers asked the bunnies why they did it and, as my friend reported, one of them said, "Have you seen his dick? It's enormous!"
So they arrested the three black guys. I have no idea what they charged them with. And they told the girls to get dressed and go home and never do it again (yeah, right, I'm sure that cured them).
Of course, my buddy and I couldn't leave it alone. We mounted a reconnaissance expedition to the Playboy Club a few nights later, and my friend asked our table's bunny if the story was true. She spilled the whole beans.
The police released the three black guys after making them spend a night in jail. The Playboy Club fired the doorman/security guard.
The bunny who arranged the whole thing was also fired, and the other girls were given 25 "demerits" (which apparently was a big deal). They apparently all claimed that they didn't know it was going to be a sex party (yeah, right) and they were just gathering to have drinks.
Final note: The doorman with the big black dick was actually well known around the entertainment district, because he had always been at his post at the Club's door and regularly greeted guests and tourists who walked by.
On our way out that night, we noted that there was a new guy -- a white guy -- at the door. For years afterwards, whenever we passed the Playboy Club we would see a white doorman at the door, and I remember I would always chuckle at the memory of the story.
Things were different then.
I love seeing these old photos. They show that the women had certainly already figured it out.
