Personally, I can't remember when it became popular & had white women being happy about being told they were thick but we were saying it growing up back in Jersey in the late 80s. It is a term of endearment although it's gotten muddled & I see dudes calling fat chicks thick. Nah chief, that's not how it's supposed to work.

OK just to give people a better idea, I can't say when white guys started using thick as a compliment, but I grew up hearing it used by my uncles since I was a little kid in the 70s. On that note I'd like to present to you exhibit A. (now I'll admit, 36-24-36 isn't exactly thick but we all knew what they meant lol BTW, this song was released in 1977
...and like I said, "Brickhouse" was the cleaned-up version of the common saying - in black culture going at least back to the early 20th century - of a woman being built like a"brick ******* house" because an out house made of brick was like the ultimate in luxury and desire, particularity for slaves and former/freed slaves living in the south.
lets be clear, thick does not mean CHUBBY . you CAN be slightly chubby and still be THICK, but it mostly depends on the hip to waist proportions & how fat the ASS itself is. the more fat the ASS, the better. the smaller the WAIST, the better, now with that being said, YES a LITTLE belly fat is attractive, just don’t over do it. LOL
