Yes, this is it in a nutshell, especially with wealthy families. They are all about image and prestige. Having a black husband/lover would not be acceptable in their circle. Sad, but this still goes on. I used to live in the South, and I saw this kind of thing. White girls would have Black boyfriends and their families would threaten to cut them off. That is how wealthy families keep their ******* in line, with the golden handcuffs.

College is seen as a time to sew your wild oats, but when you get married, you are supposed to "fit the image."
