You mean like oil subsidies, banking subsidies, farm subsidies? Those kinds of handouts? You do know that 70% of all government subsidies go to the top 10% wage earners, right? Of course its a "handout" only when its going to the low income individuals. Oh, and the Farm subsidies includes the Snap program for children of low income farmers, which Republicans cut that subsidy in half, but left the remainer of the Farm subsidies untouched. Some of the top farm subsidy payments are to individuals making over $2 million a year (some of those US congressmen) ... uh huh ... that must be those free handouts to some of those who don't have any responsibility ... uh huh!

Corporate welfare is by far the worse and most prevalent of Government hand-outs and not many cry about that except for the the fringe occupy wallstreet and tea-party people. There is alot of wasted tax payer money in our defense budget that is very bloated but alot of people dont question or understand whats in that budget. Charlie wilson's war was a great movie which showcased some of that and how it backfired on us on sept. 11 2001.
I cant disagree with farm subsidies too much as people need to eat and farmers may need a little help from time to time because seasons and crop production are unpredictable due to weather. ONe bad season without a harvest could be devastating to a farmer making his annual income necessary to pay all the farm bills and feed their family.
The Taxpayers for commonsense website has a ton of reports and data on watching where alot of our taxpayers dollars are wasted, fraud, and abuse transacted by the government. Awesome site for people to open their eyes.

Threads often seem to take on a life of their own. I don't see this as a bad thing. Progress is made through the exchange of thoughts and ideas. Many times there are divergent opinions, and the occasional dumb ass but I think that for the most part anyone can come away from these discussions a bit better informed and a bit smarter than when they got here. Years ago my ******* told me that one of the definitions of growing up was learning from the mistakes of others because you realize you aren't going to live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself. Actually, I am almost the same age. And I think that is part of why we have civil discussions. We can both agree to disagree when we need to and we don't take things personally. AND we are careful not to unintentionally offend each other, as well. We don't always see eye to eye, but we learn and grow from each other.
