The south is going through re-emancipation, I think. Born and bred in the South, myself, I'm not really proud of what's going on here. I think we just have a lot of old people, with deep embedded hate and old ways, still holding on.
I have been to about half the states. I think California probably has the most. Even at a high class mall, far away from the inner city, I saw several interracial couples (mostly where the guy is black). Plus, it is quite a liberal state, and almost every young person there loves rap music.
