At that time, max "workout" bench was 4 sets of 200lbs x 8 reps; suspended crunches 4 x 40, High protein diet ~ 4500-5000 calories/day. My profession demaned it more or less....admittedly i was a BEAST.
If you look at more recent photos, ive shed ~10lbs muscle mass and bench 1/2 that weight, higher repititions. In both cases, full body workouts though I just mentioned the bench.
The same effect can be achieved w/just push-ups / situps , no "iron". Just takes
dedication (ive made the same gains when conditions at the time meant i had no gym available)
